This summer, Essential Collective Theatre (ECT) is collaborating with four local, emerging artists to collect community stories on the theme of HOME. They will then devise a new creation based on these stories. This project is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs program and must follow their requirements.
We are looking for a:
Director
Performers/Creators (two)
Visual Artist/Designer
Priority will be given to 2SLGBTQ+, IBPoC, and under-represented people as we strive to be a voice for all in our community.
Terms of Contract:
8 weeks, June 13 – Aug 7, 2022; Part-time; Flexible schedule; Weekly salary: $450 before deductions.
Requirements
- Be between the ages of 15 and 30
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number, and
- Meet the qualifications listed in the job description.

DIRECTOR
1Director (1 position available)
Term of Contract: 8 weeks, June 13 – Aug 7, 2022;
Weekly salary: $450 before deductions (Part-time, Flexible hours)
Job Description
- Develop a set of questions and topics for a semi-structured interview with a local mentor.
- Develop a schedule for interviews, rehearsal, and production including venues with the production manager
- Attend and conduct semi-structured interviews with members of the local community to gather stories on the theme of home
- Supervise the choice of stories and oversee the creation of the script
- Incorporate stories from the research to devise and perform the finished piece for a live audience
- Direct the project, and oversee rehearsals and integration of technical elements, working in collaboration with the team
Qualifications
- Good interpersonal and time management skills
- Experience or enthusiasm as a Director
- Comfort with public relations and ease in conversational skills among diverse communities
- Empathetic, responsive, and flexible
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborative spirit, but self-motivated
- Familiarity with ECT’s Senior Stories projects is a plus

Visual Artist
Visual Artist/Designer (1 position available)

Job Description:
- Collaborate with Creative Director and Production Manager on the visual and aesthetic components of the project
- Incorporate creative elements of the project to create design elements for the production
- Work with Director and Actor/Creators during events to engage the public in creating visual representations of “Home” through crafting, painting, and building
Qualifications
- Interest in social causes and the impact of art on them
- Comfort with public relations and ease in conversational skills among diverse communities
- Empathetic, creative, and flexible
- Have the ability to work independently within a specific aesthetic
- Strong graphic design and communication skills
- Collaborative spirit, but self-motivated
