The Meisner Technique was developed by Sanford Meisner at The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. The focus of this work is to free an actor from self-consciousness that inhibits them creatively, and to be able to connect more authentically and fully to their scene partners. It is all-encompassing and remains one of North America’s most practical acting techniques.
Stephanie Jones (Artistic Director Emeritus, ECT; Meisner Instructor, The Neighborhood Playhouse) will teach a six week Meisner Acting Program meeting weekly at Silver Spire Church, 366 St. Paul Street, St. Catharines, L2R 3N2.
Dates to be announced in 2018.
A maximum of 12 actors will practice the Meisner Repetition Exercise, the Activity, and apply these principles to work on a scene with a partner.
Actors that have studied with Ms. Jones, as well as actors new to the technique, are welcome to apply.
Adult actors only please
Designed specifically for high school students aged 14-18, this program offers a series of after school workshops that lead young playwrights through the process of writing their own 20 minute play. Students will receive regular group workshops, as well as individual feedback with facilitators. The culminating activity is a reading of excerpts from the students’ plays performed by local actors.
Registrations will be accepted beginning in January, 2018.
